SBHI MS Office Training Course

The aim of the programme is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and competences in various IT modules. For many, it will be a refresher for skills they already have.

On successful completion of the course individuals will be able to operate a computer and have a level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite which they can apply to any job.

The course will be delivered through pre-recorded modules which participants will access through the SBHI online learning platform. The course will be approximately 12-15 hours divided among the relevant modules.

Unit 1: Microsoft Excel Module

  3. Basic logical and lookup functions
  4. Formatting spreadsheets
  5. Sorting and filtering
  6. Creating column and pie charts
  7. Printing options
  8. Creating pivot tables

About the instructor

Helen Douglas

IT Instructor

My name is Helen Douglas and for over 20 years, I have been assisting learners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities in developing, enhancing and improving their IT skills. I am currently doing work for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) and freelance for other organisations including the community, voluntary and private sectors. I deliver classes including:

·        ECDL/Advanced ECDL

·        Microsoft Office Specialist Core

·        Expert

·        QQI

·        City & Guilds

I have also delivered Customer Service, Business Administration and other clerical modules. I adapt my teaching style to the level my learners are at, allowing for differentiation amongst different abilities and competency levels, ensuring that everybody is included and progresses at their own pace, wherever possible. 

I am a Lifelong Learner which is essential in the IT sector as the technology and software systems are ever evolving at a fast pace in this fascinating area of innovation, creation and growth. No matter where you are at in relation to your IT skills, I am confident I will make you competent in engaging and working with various IT platforms.

When I am not teaching IT, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking long walks on the beautiful beaches in Donegal. I have also completed several fund-raising events for local charities, including a Sky Dive for Pieta House recently.
